How accounts work
Accounts are the operating layer beneath Worthic’s dashboards, transactions, documents, forecasts, and net worth reports. Each account belongs to a workspace and carries its own currency, ownership allocation, balance model, and access settings.
These settings determine whether an account behaves like a transaction ledger, a tracked asset or investment, or a simple balance record.
Adding accounts
You can add accounts during workspace setup or later from Workspace settings. Account setup captures the display name, institution or provider, optional account number or identifier, currency, ownership, account users, account type, and starting value.
Accounts are optional during setup, so you can create a workspace first and add accounts later.
When a supported institution is available, you can connect an account automatically during setup or from its connection controls. Worthic supports transactional, liability, and investment connections. The information synchronized depends on the account type and the data supported by the institution.
For investment accounts with detailed tracking, Worthic can also create dedicated cash ledger accounts for selected currencies. These cash accounts link back to the investment account so trades, dividends, fees, and cash movements can be analyzed together.
Account types and subtypes
Worthic supports three main account types:
| Account type | How it works |
|---|---|
| Transactional | Bank, credit, and cash accounts use transaction logging and running balances. |
| Liability | Loan and mortgage accounts can track repayments through a transaction ledger or operate as balance-tracking accounts. |
| Asset / investment | Accounts can track detailed investment activity, asset values without a cash ledger, or a simple current balance. |
Asset and investment accounts support three practical models:
- Detailed investment tracking: Transactions, holdings, valuations, and linked cash accounts.
- Asset value tracking: Detailed holdings or value tracking without a separate cash ledger.
- Balance-only tracking: A current value without detailed transactions or holdings.
Select the account type and subtype that match the records you want to maintain.
Account controls
Account settings control the information Worthic uses in reports and calculations.
- General settings
Maintain the account name, institution, currency, account type information, and investment type where relevant.
- Balance auto-adjustment
Balance-tracking-only accounts can increase or decrease automatically using fixed amounts, percentages, or, for liabilities, amortization-style schedules.
- Account ownership
Percentage allocations determine how much of an account contributes to each reporting line’s net worth and balance sheet.
- Account users
For accounts that support transactions, selected reporting lines can use the account for transaction activity. This is separate from ownership allocation.
- Currency
Accounts have a three-letter currency code. Changing currency after activity exists requires confirmation because related records are updated. Review the confirmation carefully before proceeding.
- Account identifier
Account numbers and identifiers are stored encrypted. Although optional, an accurate identifier helps Worthic allocate imported statements to the correct account.
- Opening balance method
Ledger accounts can use the earliest valid statement balance or a manual opening balance.
A manual opening balance provides a firm baseline from the selected date. Earlier transactions remain available as history but do not contribute to the current balance calculated from that baseline.
With Use earliest statement balance, Worthic uses available statement opening-balance evidence instead of a user-defined baseline. Subsequent transactions determine the running balance, which can be checked against statement closing balances where available.
- Forecast assumptions
Ledger-backed and value-tracked accounts can support assumptions for cash returns, portfolio returns, fixed forecast movements, or liability repayments. Simple balance-tracking-only accounts use balance auto-adjustment instead.
For eligible debt or credit accounts, Set a debt interest rate assumption exposes Debt interest rate %. This assumption applies when forecast balances are negative, including projected borrowing and repayments; it does not apply to zero or positive balances.
Forecast assumptions affect projections and do not replace actual transaction records.
Financing accounts and matching
A loan or mortgage payment may appear in both a bank account and a liability ledger. Where financing matching is available, link the corresponding records so Worthic can associate the payment with its financing details.
An unmatched financing warning means the relationship needs review. A missing counterpart can also reflect different import periods or incomplete account history.
Review both records before linking them. Linking financing records and confirming transactions are separate actions.
Closure and archiving
Accounts can be closed and archived from Workspace settings → Accounts → Manage accounts.
Archiving removes an account from active account views while retaining its history. Where available, owners or platform administrators can choose an option that also deletes historical account data. Review that option carefully because it can affect transactions, account events, holdings, links, and unreferenced documents.
Some managed real-estate accounts are disabled through the relevant property feature rather than through ordinary account archiving.
If you archive the final active Worthic account associated with an automatic bank connection, Worthic revokes that provider connection and removes its stored access token. Archiving alone does not erase previously imported records.
Account health and reconciliation
The account list provides health indicators, while the selected account shows more detail about issues requiring attention.
- Green indicates that no health issues have been detected.
- Amber identifies review items or alerts.
- Red identifies warnings requiring attention.
- Processing or Syncing indicates that work is still underway; document processing can also show a blue spinner.
The bank connection indicator is separate from account health. A connection can be healthy while transactions still require categorization, confirmation, or reconciliation.
Common attention items include:
| Issue | What to check |
|---|---|
| Transactions could not be imported | Review the import failure and source document. |
| Import integrity issue | Check whether the extracted transactions match the source. |
| Balance or statement reconciliation discrepancy | Compare the opening balance, transaction activity, and available closing-balance evidence. |
| Incomplete opening-balance evidence | Review the account’s baseline and available statements. |
| Transaction currency differs from account currency | Check the account and transaction settings. |
| Pending confirmations | Review the transactions awaiting confirmation. |
| Uncategorized transactions | Assign appropriate categories. |
| Excluded duplicate candidates | Compare the excluded rows with their matching transactions. |
| Transactions before a manual opening balance | Check that the baseline date is intentional. |
| Unmatched financing transactions | Review the corresponding bank and liability records. |
A CSV file without opening or closing balances does not, by itself, mean the account has a balance problem. Worthic can import transaction rows without that optional information. A genuine reconciliation discrepancy can still require attention.
Where available, attention items can be reviewed, deferred, resolved, or examined through AI-assisted reconciliation review.
Connections and settlement timing
Bank connections depend on the records the institution makes available. A recently authorized payment may not yet be available as a posted transaction. For some providers, unsettled transactions can remain absent until they are posted.
A delay does not necessarily mean the connection has failed. Check the bank’s transaction status and Worthic’s connection health before trying to repair the connection.
Worthic matches incoming records to existing transactions so edits, confirmations, and splits can be retained when a bank transaction settles or a connection is restored.
Use Repair for an existing connection that needs attention rather than creating a second connection.
If your institution or required account type is unsupported, contact Worthic Support at [email protected] to discuss whether a custom integration is possible.
