Asset and investment accounts represent value you own rather than day-to-day spending or money you owe. In Worthic, they sit under the Asset / investment account type and can be used for brokerage portfolios, retirement accounts, managed portfolios, fixed deposits, cash or money market holdings, precious metals, collectibles, REITs, real estate, crypto, vehicles, household goods, and other alternative assets.
The important choice is not only the investment type, but the account subtype. The subtype controls how much detail Worthic tracks and how the account behaves in net worth, dashboards, imports, and the Investments workspace.
| Subtype | Best for | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Investment account with cash account | Broker or platform accounts where cash movements and holdings should both be tracked | Uses transaction logging, can link one or more cash accounts, records trades/dividends, tracks holdings and rollups |
| Asset/investment account without a dedicated cash account | Portfolios or assets where holdings/value matter but there is no separate cash ledger to manage | Does not behave like a normal bank ledger, but can still track individual holdings, values, and investment performance |
| Asset/investment without tracking | Property, vehicles, collectibles, fixed deposits, or simple assets where only the current value matters | Balance/value tracking only; no detailed holdings ledger or trade-level tracking |
For detailed investment accounts, Worthic can store holdings with ticker, instrument name, asset class, units, cost basis, average cost per unit, latest price, market value, valuation date, and daily price movement. Trade and dividend metadata can be attached to transactions, including buy/sell action, units, unit price, brokerage, taxes, proceeds, dividend amounts, and payment dates.
Asset price tracking is driven from active holdings. Where a holding can be mapped to a market instrument, Worthic tracks the instrument, fetches latest and historical daily prices, stores price history, and updates the holding’s latest unit price and market value. Custom or non-market assets can still be tracked manually by value, in which case prices are not automatically updated, unless a supported pricing source exists.
Choose the account type like this: use a detailed investment account with cash account for a brokerage portfolio where deposits, withdrawals, buys, sells, dividends, fees, and cash balances all matter. Use a detailed asset/investment account without a cash account when you want holding-level performance but do not need a separate cash ledger. Use balance-only asset tracking for real estate, vehicles, collectibles, fixed deposits, or any asset where a periodic valuation is enough.
If you are unsure, start with the simplest model that matches the records you actually have. You can request a manual integration if your provider supplies statements, exports, emails, API access, or another repeatable source Worthic can map into the account.
