Automatic bank connections let Worthic retrieve supported account information securely from your financial institution. This reduces manual entry and helps keep balances, transactions, liabilities, and investment positions current.
Worthic currently supports more than 10,200 financial institutions across the United States and Canada through Plaid. Availability varies by institution, account type, and supported data. Worthic continuously works to broaden its geographic and institutional coverage.
Account types you can connect
1. Transactional accounts
These include bank accounts, credit cards, and similar accounts with transaction activity.
In Worthic, they are represented as transactional ledger accounts in the Accounts area. A connection can synchronize the account balance and available transactions. Imported transactions enter Worthic’s normal review and confirmation workflow, where they can be checked, categorized, and reconciled before becoming part of your confirmed records.
Examples include:
- checking accounts;
- savings accounts;
- credit cards;
- other supported cash or transaction accounts.
2. Liability accounts
These include amounts owed, such as loans and mortgages.
In Worthic, they are represented as liability accounts and reduce net worth rather than increasing it. They can also be linked to the relevant reporting line, such as a mortgage connected to a property. Depending on the institution and liability type, Worthic may synchronize the outstanding balance and available details such as the interest rate, minimum payment, last payment, next payment date, original principal, maturity date, and overdue status.
A liability can be represented as:
- a balance-tracking liability, when the outstanding amount is the main information required; or
- a liability with a transaction ledger, when repayments and related movements also need to be recorded.
3. Investment accounts
These include supported brokerage, retirement, and other investment accounts.
In Worthic, they are represented in the Investments area rather than as ordinary bank ledgers. Supported positions become investment holdings, with available quantities, prices, values, and cost-basis information. Investment activity can be brought into the linked cash or transaction ledger and follows Worthic’s review and confirmation workflow. Supported trades, dividends, and related details are associated with the investment account.
Where applicable, Worthic creates or uses a linked cash account for the investment account’s cash movements. This keeps holdings and investment performance separate from the cash ledger while preserving the relationship between them.
Before you begin
Make sure that:
- you can sign in to your financial institution;
- you can complete any security check required by the institution;
- you have permission to connect the financial account;
- you know which Worthic account or reporting line the financial account belongs to;
- the Worthic mobile app is available if a 2FA approval is requested.
Never send banking credentials to Worthic support. Credentials are entered only in the secure provider flow.
Connect an account
1. Open the relevant Worthic workspace.
2. Create a new account, or open an existing account that you want to connect.
3. Choose the appropriate Worthic account type: Transactional, Liability, or Asset / investment.
4. For a liability, choose whether it should use balance tracking or a transaction ledger.
5. For an investment, choose the appropriate investment model and confirm the linked cash-account currency where required.
6. Search for your financial institution. Supported US and Canadian institutions appear together.
7. Select the institution marked as supporting an automatic connection.
8. Review Worthic’s connection notice and choose Connect securely.
9. Complete Worthic 2FA if prompted.
10. In the secure Plaid window, sign in using the method provided by your institution.
11. Review the institution’s data-access notice and consent to the accounts and information you want to share.
12. Select the eligible financial account or accounts.
13. Return to Worthic and map each selected financial account to the appropriate Worthic account.
14. Confirm the connection and allow the first synchronization to complete.
15. Review the imported balance, transactions, liability details, or investment information in the relevant Worthic view.
Worthic checks for duplicate connections before completing setup. If the account is already connected and healthy, Worthic will tell you. If the existing connection needs attention, Worthic will direct you to repair it instead of creating a second connection.
What happens after connection?
Worthic requests only the products relevant to the selected account type:
- transactional accounts primarily request transaction data;
- investment accounts primarily request investment data and use transaction data when the institution supports it;
- liability accounts primarily request liability data and use transaction data when supported.
This allows institutions to remain available even when they support the main account type but not every additional data product.
Connection status is shown as:
- Connected — the connection is working normally;
- Sync issue — the institution or connection needs attention;
- Disconnected — the connection is no longer active.
Updates are not always immediate. Timing depends on the institution, account type, and the institution’s own processing schedule.
Review synchronized information
After the first synchronization:
1. Open Accounts for transactional or liability accounts, or Investments for investment accounts.
2. Confirm that the account balance or value is reasonable.
3. For transactional accounts, review imported transactions and confirm or correct their categories.
4. For liabilities, review the outstanding balance and any payment or loan details supplied by the institution.
5. For investments, review holdings, values, and available investment activity.
6. Resolve any items that Worthic identifies for review or reconciliation.
Worthic protects user-maintained data. Provider updates refresh provider-owned information without silently overwriting records you have maintained manually.
Repair a connection
A connection may need repair after a password change, expired consent, a new institution security requirement, or a temporary interruption.
1. Open the affected account or Settings → Connections.
2. Find the connection showing Sync issue.
3. Choose Repair or Reconnect.
4. Complete Worthic 2FA if requested.
5. Follow the institution’s secure prompts.
6. Return to Worthic and confirm that the status changes to Connected.
7. Check the relevant account view to confirm that synchronization has resumed.
Repair updates the existing connection rather than creating a duplicate.
Disconnect an account
1. Open Settings → Connections or the account’s connection controls.
2. Select the connection.
3. Choose Disconnect and confirm.
4. Worthic revokes the provider connection and stops future synchronization.
Disconnecting does not automatically delete information already imported into Worthic. Existing records remain subject to the normal account, transaction, and retention controls.
If your institution is not listed
Search using both the institution’s full legal name and common trading name. If no supported result appears, the institution or required account type is not currently available for automatic connection. You can still create and maintain the account manually.
Troubleshooting
If connection or synchronization fails:
- confirm that you can sign in directly with the institution;
- complete any outstanding security prompts from the institution;
- use Repair for an existing connection rather than adding it again;
- allow time for a temporary institution outage to clear;
- confirm that the selected financial account matches the Worthic account type;
- contact Worthic support if the problem continues.
When contacting support, include the institution name, Worthic account, approximate time of the attempt, and any safe request or session identifier shown. Never include passwords, security codes, full account numbers, or sensitive screenshots.
Security and privacy
Worthic does not receive or display the credentials entered in the secure provider flow. Connection tokens are handled server-side and encrypted. Access is controlled by Worthic workspace permissions. Credentials, account numbers, raw financial payloads, and other sensitive values are excluded from operational logs. You can disconnect an institution at any time.
When you disconnect a bank connection, Worthic revokes the Plaid connection, destroys the encrypted access token, and stops requesting new account information. Archiving the final active Worthic account associated with a connection triggers the same offboarding process; archiving an account does not, by itself, erase financial records already imported into Worthic.
Permanently deleting an account removes its associated Plaid account details and provider records. Workspace deletion revokes all Plaid connections belonging to that workspace, destroys their encrypted tokens, and removes the related account details as part of the workspace deletion process. Personal account deletion applies the same process to Plaid connections in workspaces being deleted with the account, without affecting separate workspaces that remain under another owner.
If Plaid cannot confirm revocation, Worthic stops the deletion and securely retains the encrypted token only so revocation can be retried, rather than deleting local credentials while leaving external access active.
